Open Europe's Comms Director, Nina Schick is half Nepali. Though it's not directly related to our work at Open Europe, she has been speaking about the disastrous Earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25th, and discussing the relief efforts.
She says:
"Yesterday I had the opportunity to discuss the #NepalEarthquake on Ian King Live, and comment on how the Nepali authorities are seizing aid at the (one international) airport to 'tax it' - and preventing it from getting to the people that so desperately need it. The Nepali government needs to be pressured by the international community to let the aid out. This corruption - when the country is facing a crisis of such epic proportions is shameless - and needs to be exposed.
I am so humbled by the work my friends are doing from Kathmandu: actually getting tonnes of aid out to remote areas and paying out of pocket for the supplies. If you would like to help, please consider supporting the #WeHelpNepal initiative or the Global Shapers Hub in Nepal. On day seven, their local networks and tireless efforts are proving far more efficient and effective than any (non-existent) government response, and more agile than the IGNO response.
